NetApp has recently announced its plan to expand its current product offering with a series of easy-to-own items that are specifically designed with the enterprise marketplace in mind. The move is a calculated one, as the company has set its sights on taking on competition from the likes of EMC, HP and even from various startups both internationally and in the United States.
The All Flash FAS8000 Series
The expanded product line, dubbed the All Flash FAS8000 series (or AFF 8000 series for short), is designed to offer best in class performance and versatile data management all in a single product. Every item in the All Flash FAS line will also ship with NetApp’s on Data ONTAP FlashEssentials, aimed at increasing both the efficiency and performance of the equipment.
The Benefits of All Flash Storage
Making the move to all flash storage is a decision that brings with it a wide range of benefits that can’t be ignored. For starters, flash in general is much faster than traditional hard disk drives with spinning platters and moving parts. These speed increases will not only yield almost instant improvements to application performance, but ultimately a significant advancement in server efficiency at the same time.
The challenge for many businesses in the last several years has had to do with certain disadvantages that were also inherent in such a new type of storage technology. Many all flash solutions did not have the ability to integrate existing applications, for example, and very few offered things like cloud integration or built-in data protection. The ones that did were always prohibitively expensive for all but the largest of organizations.
With the All Flash FAS8000 series, NetApp is attempting to release a suite of products that is more than ready for deployment across an enterprise. These benefits (and the competitive price point of the equipment) will go a long way towards helping businesses achieve the highest possible return on investment for their equipment over time.
Purchasing The All Flash FAS8000 Series
There are four different models currently in the FAS8000 series available for businesses to choose from depending on their needs. They can be ordered as standalone units or in conjunction with the NetApp FlexPod converged infrastructure environment. Prices on these AFF8000 units begin as low as $25,000.
