Hey, I’m Reid. I’m just going to give a little bit of a hiring tip today for all those people out there who are looking to hire sales reps. I think one of the most important things to look for when you look at a sales rep is someone who is deeply curious and if you’re being…Let’s say you’re being sold to and you’re actually the person buying something. You want a sales rep, I know I do, I want a sales rep that asks me a lot of questions – that really understands why I need what I need. In today’s age, you find a lot of people who would just quote you something.
You ask for something, say you ask for a camera, you want to buy cameras. Sure, here’s a price for the camera. A good sales rep is going to ask you a lot of questions about it. Why do you want that camera? What do you hope to shoot with that camera? When are you going to use the camera? Have you ever used a camera before? You know, what do you know about cameras? What don’t you know about cameras? What scared you about a camera? What concerns do you have about owning a camera? They’re going to ask you a ton of questions about why you want to buy what you want to buy because, ultimately the best sales reps are trying to help you make sure that’s the best decision for you.
If you’re looking to hire sales reps, one of the most important things I look for is curiosity and I see that by the nature and type of questions that they ask me and they will ask you. Make sure when you hire sales reps, you find people who are really curious. I’ve got a bunch of curious people right behind me on our sales team, so if you’re looking for people, ask great questions. That will help you and make sure you work with people and sales reps who ask you good questions. It’s not something they’re doing to sell you, they’re looking to help you and to understand the why behind the why that can help you better.
