3 minute read4 Ways to Save Money with Third-Party Support

Regardless of the size of the business that you operate, finding new and efficient ways to control costs is likely a top priority. One of the ways to accomplish that goal of controlling costs within your IT budget is by using third-party support for the equipment within your data center.

Third-party support provides multiple benefits for your organization – in addition to just saving you money. So, what are some of the ways you can save with third-party maintenance?

1. Flexible Contracts

Third-party support allows you to pay for the services that your equipment actually requires. You are not forced into having Level 1 support for all the equipment within your data center. Instead, you can have a support solution that is customized to your specific requirements.

Additionally, third-party support allows you to change or modify the specifics of your service agreement. So, if you have equipment that had lapsed in support coverage, you don’t have to worry about recertification fees to put that storage equipment back onto your support contract.

2. Next-Business-Day Part Replacement

Unless all of the equipment within your data center is mission-critical, it is likely that you don’t need to have same-day service for parts replacement for that equipment.

By adjusting your maintenance service agreements to next-business-day parts replacement, you can save money and only pay for the service you need. By simply tailoring the parts replacement requirements for your equipment, you can end up saving a considerable amount of money in support costs.

3. Support for Post-Warranty Equipment

When a piece of data storage hardware is purchased brand new, that equipment is covered by a warranty through the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). When that OEM warranty runs out, you’re generally pressured into upgrading to the newest generation of product or the OEM will significantly increase the cost to support the equipment post-warranty.

One way to save money is by using third-party maintenance for post-warranty equipment support. Third-party maintenance vendors allow you to continue to support your equipment after the OEM warranty has expired at a cost 30-70% of the OEM maintenance cost for that same equipment.

4. Coterminous Maintenance Agreements

Coterminous contracts not only make your life easier by making the contract management more simple, but also they can help save you money by not letting equipment lapse in support coverage.

With maintenance service agreements that will renew on the same day of the year for all of your data storage hardware, you can save money by simply getting rid of the administrative hassle of keeping all the contract start and end dates straight and investing that time and effort in more productive ways.
